Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital opened its doors in August 1974. The product of a donation of 31.5 acres of land by Amherst resident, Charles K. Bassett, a collaborative community commitment and a visionary initiative led by the Millard Fillmore Hospital Women’s Board, this Hospital has addressed the many and varied health care needs of the

northtown communities. In the coming year, more than 40,000 people will be cared for in an all-new, sophisticated Emergency Center, 8,600 people will undergo surgery in one of 10 state-of-the-art surgical suites, and more than 10 newborns will enter our world every day right here in your community hospital. Rest assured, the staff at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital is equipped to handle the more than 50,000 patients who come through our doors, for a wide range of illnesses or injury every year.

Philanthropy laid the groundwork for Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital’s first 30 years of service, and philanthropy will sustain those efforts for the next 30 years. With the help of $5 million in philanthropic support, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital embarked on a $64 million expansion project which represents the culmination of many years of strategic planning and the diligent work of so many who shared the vision of Kaleida Health to provide a larger, more comfortable and up-to-date Hospital to meet the growing needs of the families of our suburban community.

Surgical Waiting Area, a gift of National Fuel Gas

In September, the Hospital and our community celebrated the long-awaited opening of a new Lobby, Surgical Waiting Area and Admissions Department. New or renovated departments will be opening to better serve the community including the Emergency Room, 68 additional private and semi-private patient beds, and finally 10 new state-of-the-art Operating Rooms. When complete in June of 2008, this expansion will have added more than 100,000 square feet to the existing Hospital.

To continue the momentum, the leadership of Kaleida Health has formulated a plan to bring the existing facility up-to-date with the “new” hospital. It is our intention to initiate an extreme makeover of patient care areas including hallways, patient rooms, nurse stations and ancillary facilities to ensure that the original hospital is as beautiful and efficient as the new facility. We will also install a nurse call system hospital-wide to ensure uninterrupted care for all patients who rely on our Hospital and our staff.

Completion of this ambitious, $2 million makeover is scheduled for December 2008, and we need your help. Your strategic investment today will ensure that Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital is always prepared to care for everyone in our community in a facility designed to meet their special needs. Remember, one day someone you know may need medical help, and your community Hospital, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, will be ready.

Emergency Department

The much-anticipated opening of the new Emergency Department at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital began on November 29th with an open house and dedication.  This represents the first phase in a two-phase expansion of the Emergency Department.
