Cardiac Care Investments
As part of Kaleida Health cardiac services, Buffalo General Hospital benefited from a $22 million system-wide cardiac service expansion. The hospital built six new catheterization labs for a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as well as a completely renovated waiting room for family members of cardiac patients. Augmenting these capital improvements is the recent designation of Buffalo General Hospital as an accredited Chest Pain Center, making it the first and only hospital in Western New York to receive such accreditation. The Chest Pain Center’s protocol driven and systematic approach to patient management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack, when treatments are most effective, and to better monitor patients when it is not clear whether they are having a coronary event. Such observation helps ensure that a patient is neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted.
