Shown above is the Wilson Family at the dedication.

The late Karen Wilson Clark was lovingly remembered by her family with the dedication of the Hospice Family Room in her memory.  For many years Karen’s parents Donald and Dolores Wilson have made an annual contribution in their daughter’s memory to the Hospice Unit located on the 9th Floor of Buffalo General Hospital’s main tower where Karen received care.  The unit contains seven beds with a home setting to include family in end of life care.

Grateful Patient Mail

My mother was admitted to Buffalo General Hospital on December 10 for an angiogram and had heart surgery on December 14.  I am sending this message because you need to know how impressed we all were with the staff of Buffalo General Hospital.  As you might imagine, this was a frightening experience for my mother and father and for the rest of the family.  Throughout my mother's 10 day stay at Buffalo General, we were totally impressed and thankful for the people we met.  Jim Giallella (Nursing Unit Manager) stopped in to visit my mother twice and to see if "all was well".  Dr. Farhi, her cardiologist, was kind and compassionate as he told her that she needed to stay in the hospital over the weekend until her surgery.  Dr. Grosner was also kind and professional, assuring her that he would take care of her...which he did very well.  Each of the nurses in the CICU (Critical Intensive Care Unit) and on the tenth floor were just what you would want a nurse to be...patient, caring and taking the time to explain things to my mom and to our family.  But it wasn't just the nurses and doctors.  From the valets at the front door, to the many volunteers throughout the hospital, to the cafeteria staff and those who cleaned the halls and made up the beds, everyone was very professional and caring.

It seems that these days, we all very quickly jump to make sure someone knows when something has gone wrong.  I felt you should hear how very well your staff and your facility served us in our time of need.   Please express to your staff our appreciation and thank you for making Buffalo General a place of healing in so many ways.

Thank you for the excellent care over the last two weeks.  No one enjoys a hospital stay but your caring, warm and gentle ways made my time here bearable.  Thank you again!!

This hip surgery performed by Dr. Philips was only the 2nd major surgery I have had in my lifetime, so far!  The pre-surgery in-service was very informative and helped to put one’s mind at ease!  Being greeted by “Michael” in his “tux” on day of surgery was a “nice touch” and ran smoothly!

Meeting with anesthesiologists before surgery and their explaining the procedure was also very helpful!  After that, my mind lost 3 days!!  Pain was managed very well.  Can’t remember too much of entire stay.  Apparently, with the staff’s help, I progressed well to day of discharge to rehab! THANK YOU!!!

– Joan S.
